TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan on Tuesday decided to extend its bans on the entry of North Korean ships and trade between the two nations by another two years, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said.
The extension of the ban, which is due to expire on April 13, is part of Tokyo's efforts to resolve the issues of Pyongyang's nuclear and missile development as well as its past abductions of Japanese nationals.
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has vowed to prioritize the return of all Japanese nationals abducted by the North in the 1970s and 1980s.
North Korea has repeatedly fired ballistic missiles in violation of U.N. resolutions, raising security concerns in the region.
