SENDAI (Kyodo) -- Koki Kitayama hurled six innings of two-hit ball while striking out eight as the Nippon Ham Fighters pounded the Rakuten Eagles 10-0 on Thursday to sweep the three-game series in the Pacific League.
On his 26th birthday, Kitayama (2-0) walked three and had a hit batsman during his 104-pitch outing at Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi as his team's offense, which amassed 16 hits, gave the right-hander an 8-0 lead through the first four innings.
"The position players gave me a present with all those runs. It turned out to be a great day," said Kitayama, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second inning.
The Eagles' 40-year-old veteran Takayuki Kishi (1-1) gave up all those early runs as he surrendered 12 hits over four innings, including a three-run home run to Tatsuki Mizuno in the third inning that made it a 6-0 game.
The shortstop, batting ninth for the Fighters, went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as he also singled in a run in the seventh for their ninth run.
In the Central League, the Hiroshima Carp beat the Chunichi Dragons 2-1 after 11 innings.
