LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) -- Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw a six-inning gem and Tommy Edman crushed a three-run homer to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
A lights-out Yamamoto (2-1) fanned nine while allowing just two hits and a walk at Dodger Stadium in his first scoreless outing of the season.
The Japanese right-hander was locked in from the opening frame when he struck out his first two batters and then retired the side by getting compatriot Seiya Suzuki to fly out.
He did not allow a base runner until Kyle Tucker hit a groundball double with one out in the fourth. Suzuki singled to advance Tucker to third before Yamamoto ended the inning by striking out Michael Busch.
"I was able to pitch with a good rhythm from the start," Yamamoto said. "I had good control over my fastball and the location of my curveball, which allowed me to compete with a good count. It was a nice way to win."
Edman broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth, flying high over left field with his sixth home run of the season, tying him for the Major League Baseball lead.
Leading off as the Dodgers' designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-4 as his MLB career-best on-base streak ended at 14 games from Opening Day. Suzuki finished 1-for-3 batting third as the Cubs' DH.
The 11-4 Dodgers remain unbeaten in seven home games this year and have won 10 straight at Dodger Stadium dating back to Game 6 of last season's National League Championship Series.
