TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Yokohama F Marinos have sacked former England assistant manager Steve Holland as their head coach after a four-month reign that yielded just one J-League first-division win.
Holland's dismissal, announced Friday, came two days after a 3-2 loss to Shimizu S-Pulse that left the five-time J-League champions in the relegation zone at 18th in the standings after 11 rounds.
The 54-year-old Englishman is the second Marinos manager to be fired midseason in the past two years, with Harry Kewell shown the door last July.
Former Australia international Patrick Kisnorbo, 44, has taken the reins at Nissan Stadium as interim manager.
While Marinos have struggled domestically, they achieved better results in continental competition under Holland, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League Elite.
