JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (Kyodo) -- Yokohama F Marinos exited the Asian Champions League Elite at the quarterfinal stage Saturday with a crushing 4-1 loss to star-studded Saudi Arabian football club Al Nassr.
Two goals from Colombian international Jhon Duran and one apiece from Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane gave Al Nassr a 4-0 lead before substitute Kota Watanabe pulled one back for Marinos in the 53rd minute at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia.
But any hopes of a comeback by the J-League outfit evaporated in the 73rd minute when Watanabe's second yellow card reduced them to 10 men.
Former Inter Milan and Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic delivered a man-of-the-match performance for Stefano Pioli's side, who broke the ice through Duran in the 27th minute, then added two more goals over the next 11 minutes through Mane and Ronaldo, respectively.
Marinos interim manager Patrick Kisnorbo, barely a week into the job following the sacking of Steve Holland, brought Watanabe and Anderson Lopes off the bench in an attacking shakeup after halftime.
The pair combined to put Marinos on the board after an extended period of possession, with Lopes laying off for Watanabe to fire across Al Nassr keeper Bento Krepski into the bottom corner.
"We knew that we would be under some pressure," Kisnorbo said. "We conceded three goals that could have been avoided."
Al Nassr joined fellow Saudi clubs Al Ahli and Al Hilal in advancing to the semifinals. The J-League's Kawasaki Frontale will battle Qatar's Al Sadd on Sunday for the remaining berth in the final four.
