Judo: Georgia wins mixed team gold after upsetting Japan in semis

BUDAPEST (Kyodo) -- Georgia won its first mixed team judo world championship Friday after upsetting favorite Japan in the semifinals in Budapest.
The Georgians broke an eight-year stranglehold on the event by Japan, which had claimed the mixed teams title at every world championship since the event's introduction in 2017.
The Japanese team went on to beat Brazil in a bronze-medal playoff.
The Georgian team defeated South Korea in a final that was guaranteed to produce a first-time world champion.
