TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The globally popular Japanese manga "Demon Slayer" is set to have its latest animated film adaptation premiere in mainland China on Nov. 14, according to its official posts on Chinese social media, months after its July release in Japan.
Many mainland Chinese fans have traveled to nearby regions, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan's outlying island of Kinmen, to see the film "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -- Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns," already the highest-grossing anime movie worldwide.
The latest anime movie was released in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao in August.
The Infinity Castle film follows the blockbuster 2020 release "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -- The Movie: Mugen Train," but the latter has yet to be released in mainland China. Chinese media have cited the 2020 film's "excessively bloody battle scenes" as a possible reason for its stalled approval in the country.
Monday's announcement of the Infinity Castle film release date on the mainland came after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi agreed to promote "strategic and mutually beneficial" bilateral ties during their first meeting in South Korea last week.
