SAGAE, Yamagata -- An illumination event has begun at a park in this northeast Japan city where light flowers emerged at twilight.

At the approximately 6,600-square-meter venue for "SAGAE Illumi Terrace 2025," utilizing the rose garden at the Mogami-gawa Furusato Sogo Koen park in Sagae, Yamagata Prefecture, around 90,000 light-emitting diodes (LEDs) shine brightly. Highlights include a 7.5-meter-tall tree and luminous flowers that glow in the evening darkness.

The lights change color in sync with music by singer Saya Asakura, who hails from the city of Yamagata, creating a magical blend of light and sound.

The illumination event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily until Jan. 12 next year. On Dec. 21, there will be a fireworks display and distribution of Christmas presents. On Jan. 11, other events such as tasting hot pot dishes from the six prefectures of the Tohoku region are also scheduled.
