SAN DIEGO, California (Kyodo) -- Yoshinobu Yamamoto was charged with the loss despite a solid one-run outing as the Los Angeles Dodgers were edged by the San Diego Padres 1-0 on Monday, ending their winning streak at five.
Yamamoto (3-4) allowed three hits, including a first-inning solo homer, and struck out eight over seven innings at Petco Park.
But the Dodgers lineup was held scoreless despite collecting five hits.
"It was a frustrating mistake pitch," Yamamoto said of the home run pitch. "Every loss is frustrating. Their pitcher was good, so I can't afford to make a mistake in the first inning and give up an early home run."
Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani singled to right in the eighth inning and finished 2-for-3 with a walk, marking his third consecutive multi-hit game.
In other Major League Baseball action, Shota Imanaga was tagged with the loss after surrendering eight runs over 4-1/3 innings as the Chicago Cubs fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 9-3 for their third straight defeat.
Imanaga (4-4) gave up nine hits, including two home runs, while issuing three walks at Wrigley Field.
"My fastball was good. But if my slider and splitter had broken a little more near the hitters, I think the outing could have been different," the left-hander said.
Among other Japanese pitchers, Tatsuya Imai also took the loss after allowing three runs as the Houston Astros lost to the Minnesota Twins 6-3.
Imai (1-2) gave up five hits and struck out five over 4-2/3 innings at Target Field.
