CHONAN, Chiba (Kyodo) -- Rio Takeda was assured of finishing as this season's Japan LPGA golf tour points leader with two events left after her closest rival Miyuu Yamashita could only manage a tie for fourth place at the Itoen Ladies on Sunday.

Takeda, who has won eight times this year, missed the cut the previous day, but Yamashita's result at Great Island Club in Chonan, Chiba Prefecture, left her with no chance of reining in the long-hitting 21-year-old.

Hinaco Yamauchi won the tournament by two strokes.

A week earlier, Takeda won the Japan Classic, an event co-sanctioned by the Japan and U.S. LPGA tours, to earn the right to play in the United States next season.

Yamashita, 23, topped the JLPGA point rankings in 2022 and 2023.

Also on Sunday on the men's JGTO Tour, 33-year-old Ryo Ishikawa picked up his 20th career win at the Taiheiyo Masters.
