TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Spanish football icon Andres Iniesta will mark his retirement with an exhibition match featuring former Barcelona and Real Madrid stars at Tokyo's Ajinomoto Stadium on Dec. 15, the event's organizers announced Tuesday.

In the match dubbed "El Clasico in Tokyo," the 40-year-old will line up alongside other past stars from the two clubs including Xavi Hernandez, Rivaldo, Javier Mascherano, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Iker Casillas.

Former Spain and Barcelona midfielder Iniesta announced his retirement on Oct. 8 after an illustrious 24-year career that included four Champions League titles and his country's 2010 World Cup triumph, in which he scored the extra-time winner to beat the Netherlands 1-0 in the final.

The gifted playmaker spent five-and-a-half seasons with Vissel Kobe in Japan through the summer of 2023, helping them win their first major trophy, the Emperor's Cup, on New Year's Day 2020. He ended his career at the Emirates Club of the United Arab Emirates.

Other players so far announced to take part in the exhibition include former Barcelona players Bojan Krkic, Rafa Marquez, Ludovic Giuly, Adriano, Saviola and Real Madrid players Julio Baptista, Steve McManaman, Savio and Ivan Campo, with more to follow.
