MIYAZAKI (Kyodo) -- Max McGreevy of the United States won the Dunlop Phoenix on Sunday with a tournament record score of 22-under, holding off a final-round charge by host-country favorite Hideki Matsuyama.
McGreevy closed with a 2-under 69 for a 262 total and a four-shot victory over Matsuyama, fellow American Akshay Bhatia and South Africa's Shaun Norris at Phoenix Country Club in Miyazaki.
Matsuyama, making his first domestic tour appearance of the year, carded a 66 in the final round.
"It was an amazing week," the 29-year-old McGreevy said after his first win on the JGTO Tour. "Putts just continue to fall and I feel like I got lucky here and there throughout the week. I was happy I was able to play my best golf when I came over here."
His 22-under was one better than the previous tournament record set in 2016 by compatriot Brooks Koepka.
McGreevy had only one bogey in four rounds -- at the 17th hole in the opening round.
