Speed skating: Miho Takagi wins 1,000 for 2nd title at World Cup opener

NAGANO, Japan (Kyodo) -- Japan's Miho Takagi won the women's 1,000 meters Saturday at the speed skating World Cup in Nagano.
The Beijing Olympics 1,000 gold medalist clocked 1 minute, 14.60 seconds at M-Wave as she grabbed her second win at the season-opening meet, having also claimed Friday's 1,500.
Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands was 0.36 off Takagi's pace in second, and Brittany Bowe of the United States filled out the podium, finishing 0.21 further behind.
It was the 30-year-old Takagi's eighth career World Cup win in the 1,000, and her 31st across all distances.
Jordan Stolz won the men's 1,000 in a track record 1:07.18 as the 20-year-old American made it three wins at the opening meet after victories in Friday's 500 and 1,500.
Davide Ghiotto of Italy won the men's 5,000 in 6:12.71, also a track record, while Canada's Ivanie Blondin prevailed in the women's 3,000.
