LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) -- Free agent Yusei Kikuchi has agreed to join the Los Angeles Angels on a three-year, $63 million contract, multiple U.S. media reported Monday.
The Japanese left-hander went 9-10 this year with a 4.05 ERA playing for the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros, logging more than 200 strikeouts for the first time in his six Major League Baseball seasons.
The 33-year-old excelled for the Astros following a trade near the July 30 deadline, going 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 starts to help boost the team to its eighth straight postseason appearance.
But a sweep in the wildcard round by the Detroit Tigers eliminated Houston before Kikuchi's scheduled start.
Kikuchi, formerly of the Seibu Lions in Japan's Pacific League, is 41-47 with a 4.57 ERA in MLB after playing for the Seattle Mariners and Toronto before being dealt to Houston.
The Angels, home to Japanese two-way Shohei Ohtani until last year, have been busy bolstering the roster this offseason having finished bottom in the American League West this season going 63-99, missing out on a postseason spot for the 10th straight campaign.
