BEIJING (Kyodo) -- Japan's Miho Takagi won the women's 1,000 meters at a speed skating World Cup event on Saturday to open the season with two straight victories in the distance.
The Beijing Winter Olympics gold medalist clocked 1 minute, 14.62 seconds at the National Speed Skating Oval in the Chinese capital as she prevailed again after her win in Nagano a week ago.
Two Dutch filled the podium as Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong finished 0.10 behind in second and Angel Daleman a further 0.18 back in third.
"My start is getting relatively stable," Takagi said. "On the other hand, my skating becomes erratic in the second half of the race, and it's an issue."
It was the 30-year-old Takagi's ninth win in the 1,000 and 33rd across all distances at the World Cup.
