HIGASHIOSAKA, Japan (Kyodo) -- Former WBC super flyweight champion Masamori Tokuyama opened a gym Monday in Higashiosaka, Osaka Prefecture, with the aim of developing boxing greats.
"I want to develop champions like Naoya Inoue or Kazuto Ioka," said Tokuyama, who retired in 2007 after an illustrious career.
His gym is not only targeted at serious boxers but also a wide range of people.
"I welcome people who come for fitness purposes, and I also want to put a special focus on kids," the 50-year-old said.
Tokuyama took the WBC super flyweight belt from South Korea's Cho In Joo in August 2000 and successfully defended it eight times until he was dethroned by Katsushige Kawashima in June 2004.
Tokuyama reclaimed the title 13 months later in a rematch with Kawashima.
