OSLO (Kyodo) -- The following is the gist of the speech given by Terumi Tanaka, co-chair of Japan's leading group of atomic bomb survivors Nihon Hidankyo, also known as the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations, at the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony.
-- Fading nuclear taboo is saddening and infuriating.
-- Nagasaki atomic bombing showed such killing must never be allowed to happen.
-- Hibakusha believe nuclear weapons should not be possessed, that we must not depend on theory of nuclear deterrence.
-- Next generation should further develop nuclear abolition movement as fewer survivors will be there to give testimonies in future.
-- People should create opportunities to listen to atomic bomb survivors' testimonies in their countries to universalize Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
