NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- Goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt, a Japan squad member at the 2022 World Cup, has joined Nagoya Grampus from Belgium's Gent on a full transfer, the J-League first-division club announced Monday.

The 32-year-old, who was unused during the tournament in Qatar, replaces Mitch Langerak at Nagoya after the Australian returned home to rejoin Melbourne Victory.

"I'll put my maximum effort into bringing titles to this club," Schmidt said in a team statement.

Schmidt left Vegalta Sendai to join Sint-Truiden in 2019 before moving to Gent in January 2024 but saw his playing time limited at his second Belgian club. He was last called up to the Samurai Blue in September 2023.
