SEOUL (Kyodo) -- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's defense team said Thursday he will refuse further questioning at the headquarters of the country's anti-corruption body, according to local media reports, a day after he was detained over accusations of inciting insurrection through his declaration of martial law on Dec. 3.
The president "fully explained his position" Wednesday, one of his lawyers was quoted as saying by Yonhap News Agency. Yoon underwent questioning after being transported to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which is leading the probe into Yoon's short-lived imposition of martial law.
The anti-corruption body had said it planned to resume questioning of the president Thursday morning but postponed it to later that day following Yoon's request due to health reasons.
Yoon's defense team also said it has requested a court to review whether his detention was appropriate and the Seoul Central District Court is set to hold a hearing at 5 p.m., local media reported.
If the court judges the detention inappropriate, Yoon will be released from a detention center in Uiwang near Seoul and return to his official residence.
The anti-corruption agency said in its briefing that it will provide its records as requested by the court for the review.
The time spent for the court's review will not be regarded as part of the 48 hours that investigators have to request an arrest warrant, the agency said.
