TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have landed in Japan from their spring training homes in Arizona for Major League Baseball's season-opening series beginning Tuesday.

When the World Series champion Dodgers landed Thursday, the arrival lobby of Tokyo's Haneda airport was packed with fans trying to get a glimpse of superstars such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

"I'm home," Ohtani said in Japanese in his Instagram post. The Cubs arrived late Wednesday.

After Friday's official practice at Tokyo Dome, the two teams will play exhibition games against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers on Saturday and Sunday.

Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga are set to start Tuesday's season opener.

Roki Sasaki is scheduled to make his major league debut the following day against a Cubs lineup that includes Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki.
