Baseball: NPB preseason schedule concluded, Fighters finish 1st

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Nippon Ham Fighters on Sunday finished at the top of the 12-team Japanese baseball preseason standings for the first time since 2010.
Five days before Nippon Professional Baseball's season begins, the Fighters rallied to beat the Yakult Swallows 7-4 at Es Con Field Hokkaido outside Sapporo.
The Fighters posted a 10-3 record with three ties to end the preseason schedule 1-1/2 games ahead of the second-place Seibu Lions.
The reigning Japan Series champion DeNA BayStars and the Yomiuri Giants finished with a .500 winning percentage to share sixth place. The Orix Buffaloes were last with a 3-10 record with three ties.
Chunichi Dragons outfielder Yuki Okabayashi had the highest batting average of .364.
Five players tied for the lead in home runs with three, including Kazuma Okamoto of the Giants and Kotaro Kiyomiya of the Fighters.
