TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Yokozuna Onosato suffered his first loss at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament on Wednesday, while ozeki Kotozakura became the only unbeaten wrestler after four days.
Ukrainian ozeki Aonishiki surrendered his first loss on Day 4 of the 15-day competition to join 15 others at 3-1 in the elite makuuchi division.
Another ozeki, Kirishima, who is seeking promotion to sumo's highest rank of yokozuna, remained one win off the lead at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Onosato (3-1) was driven back by a fierce barrage of thrusts from No. 2 maegashira Takayasu (2-2), before being thrust down and out of the ring.
Kotozakura, who narrowly avoided the drop as a demotion-threatened "kadoban" ozeki in the previous meet in July, beat No. 3 maegashira Gonoyama (1-3) with an overarm throw.
Kirishima firmly grabbed the body of No. 1 maegashira Kotoeiho (1-3), before forcing out the opponent.
Aonishiki was pushed out by Hakunofuji (1-3), giving the komusubi his first win.
Sekiwake Atamifuji (3-1) pushed down No. 4 maegashira Fujiryoga (1-3) in their first bout.
The other sekiwake, the third-highest rank below yokozuna and ozeki, Fujinokawa (2-2), fell to No. 1 maegashira Kotoshoho (1-3).
Among other grapplers of the three "sanyaku" ranks below yokozuna, komusubi Daieisho picked up his first win by defeating No. 2 maegashira Yoshinofuji (0-4).
